HISTORY OF THE MISSION
Whole Planet Foundation (WPF) is a 501c3 private foundation established by Whole Foods Market (WFM) in 2005. WPF was born from the WFM core value, Caring About Our Communities and Our Environment, an idea of shared fate with WFM's global communities. The mission of WPF is to provide financial support to Microfinance Institutions (MFI) to alleviate poverty through expansion of microcredit services in communities that supply Whole Foods Market with product. Partner MFIs deliver financial services that are tailored to the realities of people living in poverty while maintaining efficient operations in a financially sustainable manner. • Visit www.wholeplanetfoundation.org • WPF was created and is funded by Whole Foods Market with the mission of supporting MF in the developing-world where WFM sources product • WPF first microfinance projects were funded in 2005 in partnership with Dr. Yunus and Grameen Trust • WPF currently supports microfinance projects in throughout Africa from Morocco to Madagascar
Over the past 2 years, WPF has focused on expanding the foundation's support of microfinance throughout Africa. Currently the Regional Director oversees a portfolio of 14 countries from Morocco to Madagascar. WPF is seeking a Program Manager to support the ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation of the continent-wide projects. The Program Manager will report to the Regional Director and focus on M&E both at the desk and through site visits. As a corporate foundation, it is important for the Field team to be effective storytellers through photos, videos, and blogs to connect our supporters with our projects.
WPF is a small team that values highly effective and efficient people and we place an emphasis on low bureaucracy both internally with our Team and externally with our partners.
It is imperative that this person have significant experience working in rural Africa, minimum 2 years with an understanding of the reality facing the poor. Strong knowledge of microfinance will be important. The ability to speak French is preferred.
Job Objectives: • Assist Whole Planet Foundation to monitor and evaluate the portfolio of microfinance projects in Africa • Tell the story of Microfinance Institutions (MFI), clients, and the realities of poverty through various mediums • Build and maintain relationships with Foundation microfinance partners in the region
Objectives and Activities: • Conduct remote reviews of MFI performance • Assess MFIs abilities to grow loan portfolios in an efficient and sustainable manner with additional funding • Visit MFIs throughout the Region as part of ongoing M&E • Recommend MFIs based on research findings • Communicate with Foundation partners on a regular basis to assess performance of MFI as compared to original grant agreement • Compile quarterly metrics of MFI partners and analyze accomplishments versus project goals • Perform thorough review of MFI partners financial statements on an as needed basis • Conduct field reviews of projects on an as needed basis • Provide the Foundation with MFI client photo stories and other media • Manage and be responsible for all activities as an independent contractor with guidance from WPF • Provide logistic support and coordination on an as needed basis for visits from WPF representatives to the region
Additional Qualifications: Education / specific degree / special skills: Min. bachelor's degree in international development, business, economics or related studies. • At least 2 years of experience working in rural development in Africa • Experience with microfinance • Financial acumen, ability to analyze financial statements • Ability to interview MFI clients in the field • Ability to provide high quality photos of MFI clients based on WPF requirements • Strong writing skills
