Remarks:
Over the past decades Uganda has become a politically stable and secure state. It ranks 156 out of 179 on the human development index. Its population growth rate of 3.3% is one of the highest in the world. Around 85% of the population lives in rural areas. Uganda has already achieved MDG1 of halving income poverty. However, there are significant income disparities among Regions and population groups and emergencies such as drought, food shortages, epidemics, floods and refugees require support to emergency responses which are coordinated by the Government. Programmatically this situation calls for a continued strong focus on poverty and disparity reduction, particularly for children and women in the north and north-east. UNICEF Uganda is also an innovation hub in the region with some of the innovations being replicated in other countries and agencies in the region. It also has a very strong programme delivery and advocacy strategy through Youth engagement who account for 60 per cent of the national population. Uganda is a self-starter delivering as one country.
