Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is a Management Development Institution with a mission “to excel in developing sustainable management capacity”. It provides management training, consultancy and research services in response to the demands of the public, private, and NGO sectors. In addition to short performance improvement management skills development courses, the Institute offers high quality career development management courses at Certificate, Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Higher Degree Levels. The Institute’s activities are currently carried out at the main campus in Kampala and its Outreach Centers in Mbarara, Gulu and Mbale.
In order to carry out its functions efficiently and effectively, the Institute seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons in the following full time posts:
1. INSTITUTE BURSAR (1)
• SALARY SCALE: UM2A
• REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
• RESPONSIBLE FOR: PROVIDING FINANCIAL ADVICE TO RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS TO SUPPORT DECISION MAKING.
a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Overseeing the development and implementation of the Institute budgets
2. Ensuring proper management of the Institute’s financial resources
3. Managing and supervising Finance Department staff
4. Spearheading the development of financial operational policies and procedure manuals that reflect the operations of the Institute
5. Ensuring that the financial controls are adequate and effective
6. Ensuring that the Accounting Information System generates the appropriate financial information that supports effective management decisions.
7. Overseeing investment and development plans of the Institute
8. Preparing and submitting financial reports to Management, Council and Government
b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
The suitable candidate will have the following qualifications:
(i) An honors first degree of B.Com (Accounting) or BBA (Accounting) from a recognized University or Institution.
(ii) A Masters Degree in a relevant field from a recognized University or Institution.
(iii) A full professional qualification ie ACCA, CPA.
(iv) Reputable management and service record in accounting work in respectable organization or higher education Institution
(v) At least eight years post qualification experience in accounting work, three of which should be at senior managerial level gained with a reputable organization or higher education Institution.
(vi) Well developed interpersonal, communication, team building and analytical skills
(vii) Should be aged between 35 to 50 years.
2. CONSULTANT IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (1)-READVERTISED
• SALARY SCALE: UM4A
• REPORTS TO: HEAD OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(i) Develop training programmes,
(ii) Market UMI training programmes.
(iii) Develop training materials and case studies,
(iv) Facilitate on training programmes of the Institute.
(v) Prepare reports on training conducted for both internal and external stakeholders
(vi) Evaluate the impact of training given to participants.
(vii) Conducting research and publishing.
(viii) Carrying out consultancy services for UMI Clients.
(ix) Supervise students carrying out research projects as part of their training.
(x) Developing high quality customized short and long courses for practitioners
(xi) Perform other duties as may be required from time to time.
b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:
(viii) Applicants must have a minimum of a Masters Degree relevant to the post applied for from a recognized University or Institution.
(ix) An honors first degree in a related field is a requirement for all applicants
(x) Applicants with a professional qualification like CISA or Certified Database Administrator will have an added advantage
(xi) At least three years’ teaching in a University or other Institutions of higher learning will be required for all applicants but those with substantial managerial experience gained with reputable organizations will be considered.
(xii) Should be aged between 30 to 50 years
(xiii) Literacy in MS Office applications is required.
(xiv) Ability to deliver high quality training in a wide range of fields to adult learners.
(xv) Ability to conduct research and undertake consultancy assignments
3. LECTURERS IN:
• INSITUTIONAL MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP (1)
• PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT (1)-READVERTISED
• SALARY SCALE: UM4A
• REPORTS TO: HEAD OF HIGHER DEGREES DEPARTMENT
(a) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LECTURERS:
(i) Developing high quality graduate-level training programmes
(ii) Marketing UMI training programmes
(iii) Developing world-class training materials and case studies
(iv) Facilitating on training programmes of the Institute
(v) Evaluating the impact of training given to participants
(vi) Conducting research and publish.
(vii) Carrying out consultancy services to UMI Clients.
(viii) Supervising graduate students carrying out research projects as part of their training.
(ix) Developing high quality customized short and long courses for practitioners and academicians.
(b) PERSON SPECIFICATIONS FOR LECTURERS:
(i) A Bachelors Degree (Hons) and Masters Degree from a recognized University/ Institution in a related field.
(ii) A minimum of a PhD in a related field is mandatory to all applicants.
(iii) Two years of teaching experience at postgraduate level in a higher Institution of learning.
(iv) Should be aged between 30 to 50 years
(v) Evidence of at least three recent publications will be of added advantage.
(vi) Evidence of pedagogical skills possession at postgraduate level will be of added advantage.
4. REWARDS AND OTHER TERMS OF SERVICE:
Successful candidates will, on being confirmed in appointment, be offered five-year renewable contracts, a competitive basic salary complemented by housing allowance, medical allowance, transport allowance and an attractive gratuity scheme. Staff are also provided with support for continuous personal development.
