SNV USA is recruting an experienced financial manager with strong knowledge of USAID contracting rules to serve as Director of Finance. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual to oversee the financial operations of a young, fast-growing nonprofit that in 2013 will have a budget of at least $8 million and a staff of 10.

The Position and its Principal Responsibilities
Reporting to SNV USA’s Executive Director, the Director of Finance is responsible for ensuring the fiscal health of the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Overseeing the production of monthly financial reports that are timely, accurate, and understandable for senior management and board members.
2. Ensuring that the organization is in compliance with USAID and other donor rules and regulations.
3. Overseeing the preparation of budgets and other financial material for proposals that SNV USA submits to prime implementers, USAID, and other donors.
4. Overseeing payroll.
5. Preparing financial reports for prime implementers, government agencies, private foundations, other donors, and SNV in the Netherlands.
6. Leading an organization-wide process to produce an operating budget that reflects the organization’s shared goals and fiscal realities.
7. Providing the senior management team and the Board of Directors with financial projections based on sound models.
8. Serving as the staff liaison to the Board of Directors when it is addressing financial management issues.
9. Serving as the global liaison to SNV staff with respect to financial management issues.
Desired Skills and Characteristics
As the person overseeing SNV’s financial management, the Director of Finance should be:
1. Highly knowledgeable about the accounting and financial management at nonprofit organizations that receive funds from USAID and private foundations. Expertise in USAID contracting rules and NICRA is essential. A degree in accounting is desirable, but not required.
2. Interested in a high-level, yet hands-on finance job; this person will be part of SNV USA’s senior management team, and will oversee a small finance department.
3. A superb communicator, orally and in writing, especially in articulating financial and other quantitative data to staff in the USA, the Netherlands, and field offices.
4. Collegial and open. The Director of Finance must have a personality and work style that ensures that the internal atmosphere will remain open and collaborative, at all levels of the organization.
5. Interested in, supportive of, and passionate about the mission of SNV.
