Senior Manager Communications Based in Amsterdam Full-time (40 hours)
Purpose of the position The Senior Manager Communications will work closely with the Director Outreach and Development to design and implement Fairfood International’s communications strategy in such a way that:
• Fairfood International’s brand and reputation grow steadily and Fairfood is increasingly effective as a leading voice advocating for sustainability in our global food system.
Department The Outreach and Development department is composed of two specialized teams namely: Fundraising and communications. The communication team is composed of managers working on Media & PR, Creative Design and Editorials, all based in Amsterdam. The Senior Manager communications reports directly to the Director Outreach and Development.
Responsibilities 1. Communications Strategy development and implementation The Senior Manager communications works with the Director Outreach and Development in the planning, implementation and monitoring of an innovative internal and external corporate communications strategy. He/She will ensure that the communications strategy enhances Fairfood’s brand, culture and external reputation. The senior manager corporate communications is a skilled professional with strong communications background and an extensive network of international media agencies. The Senior Manager communications oversees the creative development of Fairfood’s external communications products both online and in print including for example annual reports and events. He/She is an excellent writer and very creative. He/she has a solid understanding of social media.
- Campaign consult and Fundraising collaboration The Senior Manager communications has a background in campaigning. He/She acts as in-house consultant on all Fairfood's advocacy campaigns. The Senior Manager communications aligns key messages and communications strategies and coaches Fairfood Management on specific communication tactics. He/She has an acute sense of where and when to engage opportunities for funding or collaboration with other parties and tactically acts upon them in very close collaboration with the Fundraising team and the entire organisation. He/She plays a coordinating role in timing and content of Fairfood’s various campaigns. The Senior Manager communications must work with Fairfood’s advocacy team and fundraising team to creatively design excellent cases for financial support.
- Managing communications team members The Senior Manager communications acts as the supervisor of other managers within the Communications team. The Senior Manager communications is able to motivate the team by giving the right amount of support and empowerment at all times. He/she is approachable and shows good respect, empathy, and also exercises natural authority and decisiveness. The Senior Manager Communications is responsible for reaching the targets and the results of the communications team at Fairfood and ensures impact is achieved within budget and within agreed timeframes. The Senior Manager Communications is result-driven and fosters a climate of teamwork and collaboration within his/her team and with external parties. He/She takes ownership for the delivery of high quality results.
Competences - Excellent professional writing and speaking skills - Very strong leadership and strategic abilities - Very strong interpersonal relationship skills - Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams - Demonstrated affinity with fundraising - Proven ability to deliver results on time and within budget - Excellent planning, monitoring, evaluating and reporting abilities - Fluency in written and spoken English is a pre-requisite, additional languages is an advantage
Knowledge - Minimum university bachelor degree in communications or a related discipline - At least 6 years work experience leading projects and managing employees most preferably, in a campaigning or communications position preferably in the development sector - Extensive international work experience and knowledge of the food industry - Extensive network of media contacts and relations

Fairfood International remunerates its staff in line with industry standards, including a gross salary of €50,368.05, a personal budget in lieu of pension of €4,029.44 and reimbursement of work-home travel.
