Chemonics seeks a lawyer who specializes in resource law for the USAID Tenure and Global Change task order under the Strengthening Tenure and Resource Rights (STARR) indefinite quantity contract. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Clarify legal and regulatory rights to benefits derived from environmental services under REDD+ and other payment for environmental service schemes of the task order
- Help partner countries align their laws, regulations, and institutions to recognize and protect the rights of communities, investors, and other stakeholders who participate in the management of and receive benefits from REDD+ and similar initiatives
- Ensure effective and compliant reporting, monitoring and evaluation of related activities
Qualifications:
- J.D. or L.L.M. degree
- Minimum 10 years of experience drafting land, forest, or other resource-related legislation; implementing regulations; and ensuring adherance to procedural documents, local government decisions and protocols, and other legal documents relevant to a given project
- Experience with legal issues of payment for environmental services and benefit-sharing mechanisms related to forests, fisheries, water, and other resources is desirable
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
- Fluent English
