The incumbent will support the Finance and Administration Manager in all financial and management accounting activities in the WaterAid Malawi Country Programme, to ensure compliance with WaterAid (WA) financial policies & procedures for payments, receipts and cash management, and ensure completeness and accuracy of Malawi Country Programme financial accounts.
Key Roles and Responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance with WaterAid financial policies and procedures for all financial transactions
- Ensure Value for Money issues are maintained and complied with
- Make payments and receive funds according to WaterAid accounting procedure requirements which include
- Participate in periodic reviews of the country programme’s finance and accounting procedures
- Ensure that the CP has adequate funds for operations at all times
- Act as the custodian of WaterAid's cash assets
- Prepare monthly management and financial reports for presentation to the Senior Management Team (SMT)
- Conduct monthly Non Programme and Off Shore Expenditure reconciliations
- Prepare Donor financial reports that meet donor requirements in quality and timing
- Conduct formal financial management capacity assessment for new partners
- Ensure that funds are transferred to WaterAid partners in line with duly signed funding agreements
- Ensure that partners adhere to WA financial management policies and procedures when managing WA funds
- Coordinate and take part in partner monitoring and support activities and reporting on the same
- Training, coaching and mentoring WaterAid and partner finance staff in relevant financial procedures
- Prepare draft financial statements and schedules
- Keep up to date with developments in taxation and ensure that WA remains tax compliant at all times
- Manage financial aspects of staff pension including contributions, administration fees, records and reconciliations
- Coordinate external and internal audits
- Take a leading role in preparing cost summaries in multiyear budgets and plans
- Upload budgets into the computerised financial management system
Minimum Qualifications, skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Accountancy (B Acc) or equivalent
- Part ACCA qualified, studying towards qualification (Qualified accountants will have an added advantage)
- Minimum of five years work in accountancy
- Use of an accounting package, preferably SUN and Vision Excel
- Attention to detail - excellent planning and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team - Strong analytical/problem solving skills
- Excellent knowledge of Excel & word (MS Office in general)
- Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment
- Confident to train staff effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Self motivated person, able to work without close supervision
