Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
The Research Department at the Transparency International-Secretariat develops and implements cutting-edge global research tools on corruption, accountability and transparency (e.g. Corruption Perception Index, Global Corruption Barometer, Bribe Payers Survey, National Integrity System Assessments) as well as supports the wider TI movement in its evidence-based advocacy work. The Research Department therefore offers a unique job opportunity for a highly-skilled and motivated individual who is committed to generating and using evidence to further the fight against corruption.
The Research Coordinator’s portfolio will cover the entire ambit of research method design, research management, data quality control, production of research outputs for a non-technical audience and monitoring of research uptake by target audiences. In carrying out his/her responsibilities, the incumbent will work closely with the Research Manager (responsible for TI’s Global Research Tools) and the Research Director, but will also be required to engage the entire TI Secretariat as well as the wider TI movement to ensure relevance and accessibility of TI’s research products.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development, implementation and promotion of TI’s global research tools (e.g. Corruption Perception Index, Global Corruption Barometer, Bribe Payers Survey)
Develop materials for public outreach, support representation of TI research publicly in selected policy fora and support fundraising proposals.
Provide technical assistance and conduct quality control processes on various research projects carried out by TI’s National Chapters
Conduct small research scoping exercises to guide the development of new research methods and improvements to existing research tools.
Contribute to the research, design and execution of research training materials for TI-S and the Movement.
Help develop and use monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks for TI research tools, including engaging with the Movement to monitor the effectiveness of TI research outputs and the changing needs for training in use of research tools and research findings.
Respond to external inquiries and requests related to TI’s research products.
Knowledge, experience and skills:
Master’s degree or equivalent experience in political science, public administration, international or development economics, law, sociology or a related social science discipline
Minimum of five years’ work experience, preferably with a focus on applied research in the field of governance and anti-corruption
Sound knowledge of tools, research methods and policy issues in the good governance and anti-corruption field
Strong writing and editing skills
Solid quantitative data analysis skills
Strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience in training/capacity-building a distinct advantage
Fluency in English (written, spoken) with additional international languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian) an advantage
Strong working knowledge of Excel and a standard statistical software package, online communications and data visualisation applications an advantage.
TI Secretariat reserves the right to appoint to another staff level subject to education and qualifications.
