Heshima Kenya is a nonprofit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya dedicated to identifying, protecting and empowering unaccompanied refugee minors, especially adolescent girls, through our specialized shelter, education and advocacy programs. The Youth Coordinator will carry out program goals and objectives associated with the Girls’ Empowerment Project, a multi-phase program where unaccompanied refugee girls participate in basic education courses, life-skills training and leadership, vocational training, and income generating projects.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the overall management, planning, assessing and implementing of the program
• Conduct assessment of existing program components and evaluate challenges and successes.
• Responsible for supervising direct program staff and ensuring program objectives and goals are met
• Responsible for facilitating the placement and supervision of volunteers and guest speakers.
• Conduct participant intake interviews and conduct ongoing assessments and evaluations
• Oversee basic education curriculum and design and teach life-skills curriculum
• Facilitate and manage program activities and outings.
• With key staff, design and implement income-generating component of Girls’ Empowerment Project
• Manage materials such as photographs and newsletter content that demonstrate program impact
• Write and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
• Participate in the design and implementation of program and project evaluation.
• Perform other duties as assigned in the implementation of program activities.
Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree in Public Health, Education or Social Work; advanced degree preferred.
• 2-5 years working with youth populations, preferably with girls and/or refugee youth.
• 1-2 years working at the program management level, including leading or assisting with designing and implementing projects.
• Must be a Kenyan citizen
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent reporting and organizational skills
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Must have strong organizational and creative skills and is sensitive to the needs and potential of adolescent refugee girls.
• Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and client needs.
