Ofgem Environmental Economist (Band C)

The Sustainable Energy Policy team leads on Ofgem’s approach to environmental and long-term sustainability issues. This includes incorporating environmental issues into major Ofgem projects such as price controls, liaising with DECC on emerging government policy, occasional discussion papers to lead new thinking and stakeholder engagement.

You will deliver economic analysis to support the team’s work. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Economist, you will work with teams delivering key Ofgem projects to develop a good understanding of the modelling and economic analysis used to underpin decisions and help to embed environmental and sustainable development issues in the economic analysis. You will also assist with economic analysis for the team’s “thought leadership” work and analysis of Government policy where appropriate.

Key requirements
• a degree in a relevant field, preferably economics, or equivalent qualification/expertise
• understanding of sustainable development or environmental issues; experience of the energy sector would be an advantage
• quantitative and qualitative policy analysis skills, particularly the use of environmental economics in policy analysis
• ability to help develop and analyse policy options and develop economic analysis to support these
• good presentation and communication skills, including an ability to contribute to the drafting of documents
• ability to work across organisations and influence project outcomes and to deliver agreed outputs to timescales required
