POSITION SUMMARY
The BlackBerry Security Team is a center of excellence working to ensure the ongoing security of our products and services for customers and partners worldwide. The security of BlackBerry products have always been among their strongest selling points, and RIM strives to provide the most secure, trusted mobile platform possible. To continue our tradition of excellence, we are looking for individuals in the security space who are knowledgeable, passionate, and experienced to join RIM. This is an opportunity to work for an industry leader in mobile security, one of the most challenging and interesting areas in computer science.
We are currently looking for a talented and passionate individual to study and develop state-of-the-art techniques and tools for the efficient automated detection of malicious applications across a variety of technologies including BlackBerry Java, Android, Adobe AIR and native code. The Malware Researcher will possess an understanding of C/C++, Java bytecode, obfuscating code packers, rootkits, reverse engineering and code analysis. The successful candidate will be required to communicate requirements and remediation guidance to a wide variety of technical and non-technical teams across the BlackBerry organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Researching new and innovative malware analysis techniques.
- Designing and building malware analysis tools as part of a larger automated framework.
- Conducting reverse engineering and behavioral analysis of malware samples.
- Working with internal and external development teams to remediate security issues.
- Tracking and reporting on efforts and progress to management
Qualifications
- ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience in malware research or malware analysis techniques.
- Software development experience in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Adobe AIR, Java, Python, MySQL.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Cool under pressure - objective and diplomatic.
- Able to work collaboratively with minimal supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
ADDITIONAL ASSETS- Experience performing static analysis for at least one of the following: Java bytecode, ActionScript bytecode or ARM ELF.
- A background or strong working knowledge of statistics would be considered a plus.
- Knowledge of BlackBerry products and services.
