The Manoff Group, Inc., a firm with more than 40 years of experience in communications for development, is recruiting a full-time Knowledge Management and Communication Advisor for the Strengthening Partnerships, Results and Innovation in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project, based in Arlington, Virginia.
SPRING is the U.S. Agency for International Development’s flagship nutrition project. It is being implemented to promote policies and evidence-based best practices in nutrition programming to scale-up and improve the impact of country-level nutrition programs, with particular emphasis on reaching vulnerable populations, including women, infants, and young children. This job offers an excellent opportunity to a well-qualified individual who would like a significant role on a team working with country programs and broader communities of practice in maternal and child nutrition to prevent maternal and child malnutrition.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Strategic Information Specialist, the Knowledge Management and Communication Advisor will be responsible for developing and executing a knowledge management and communication strategy that establishes SPRING’s identity as a global leader in managing knowledge, and developing and disseminating communications for nutrition. Among other duties, this will include:
- Developing a global strategy for Knowledge Management that includes mechanisms for creating, distributing and sharing experiences, innovations, and best practices.
- Adapting Knowledge Management strategies and activities to specific country programs or topic areas.
- Providing leadership on targeted, innovative communication strategies for distinct audiences, such as donor agencies, host-country policy makers, and technical staff of agencies in multiple sectors. This will notably require creating and maintaining a knowledge portal.
- Working with SPRING technical managers to address effective knowledge management, including: supporting communities of practice; identifying knowledge points in reports and other documentation to produce highlights, lessons and best practice guidance; developing case studies on critical issues; organizing meetings and other knowledge sharing events; conducting partner outreach; and using social media to direct target audiences to key resources and learning opportunities.
- Managing the editing and appropriate branding of all project materials.
- Managing writers and graphic consultants, as needed.
- Working with senior management to produce annual work plans, as well as quarterly and annual reports.
- Developing and pursuing opportunities with USAID, partners, and external organizations to collaborate on communication or knowledge management activities in order to leverage expertise and financial resources.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in communications, information science, journalism or marketing; or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in knowledge management and the management of communications operations; including at least five years of experience in international development and/or public health. An understanding of international nutrition is a plus.
- Experience working on USAID-supported projects strongly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, writing and editorial skills required; particularly the ability to write clearly and engagingly on complex technical subjects.
- A proven record of successful communication product development while adhering to deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience working with and managing all types of media: print, web, social media, video, radio, websites, listservs, blogs, and others.
- Proven skills in management and interpersonal relations, and the ability to work effectively in an environment which values both independence and collaboration, and where skills building of collaborators may be required.
- English fluency is required; additional language proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Portuguese is a plus.
- Able to work in the US legally.
- Able to travel internationally.
