Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). Any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Evidence Custody Team, the Associate Evidence Case Officer is responsible for the performance of the following duties:
• Drafting and preparation of complex reports and technical reports;
• Produce analysis reports as required;
• Collect, collate and synthesize multi-sourced data and ensure that all material is evidentially sourced;
• Review evidentiary materials and extract relevant information pertaining to the case;
• Support the process of evidence review in accordance with relevant guidelines and prepare summaries of evidence;
• Organize evidence, ensuring that the necessary evidentiary continuity is established and maintained;
• Assist and support the proceedings by retrieving information and allow its analysis and use by the Investigators;
• Work in the evidence database and create reports;
• Act as liaison between a multi-disciplinary investigative team and other components of the Office of the Prosecutor;
• Maintain organised files and meet tight deadlines, and;
• Perform any other functions as required.

• Technological Awareness – Fully proficient computer skills, relevant applications and a familiarity with, and experience in the use of various research methodologies and sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases. Keeps abreast of available technology.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Education: University degree in social sciences, law, policing science, intelligence, criminology or related fields is required. University degree in law is highly desirable. Study of criminal law, public international law and/or international criminal law is an asset. Documented equivalent combination of relevant experience and formal education may be considered appropriately.
• Work Experience: At least 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience. Experience in the drafting, editing and preparation of complex reports or technical reports is an asset. Experience in project management is an asset. Experience at a domestic or international research institute is an asset. Legal experience is an asset. Experience in complex cases such as multi-defendant cases, terrorism, murder and organised crime cases is an asset. Prior experience in international investigations or at international criminal tribunals is an asset. Awareness of the political, historical and cultural context of the Middle East is an asset. Knowledge of analysis software is an asset. Possession of an advanced University degree in a relevant field may be considered in substitution of years of experience.
• Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post proficiency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic and/or French is an asset
• Other: Advanced knowledge of Word and Excel is required. Demonstrated ability to use document database software and document editing software. Previous experience in the usage of communications data is highly desirable.
