Agronomist, CSISA-Bangladesh Coordinator (Scientist or Senior Scientist level) International Rice Research Institute

IRRI is looking for a dynamic field agronomist with a substantial understanding of development issues to lead its applied rice cropping system management research and dissemination-related activities in Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA)-Bangladesh.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In consultation with partners, lead the development, refinement, and dissemination of key new rice technical innovations, specifically those related to sustainable intensification of rice-based cropping systems. In particular,
• Lead IRRI’s contribution to the CSISA-Bangladesh project as “IRRI CSISA-Bangladesh coordinator”; coordinate with CIMMYT and World Fish CSISA-Bangladesh coordinators on hub management and joint RD&E activities.
• Lead planning and reporting for hub-based work on development and dissemination of rice-based technologies; mentor hub-based staff (agronomists, extensionists).
• Organize trainings and workshops on new rice-based technologies for CSISA-Bangladesh project partners and project staff.
• Develop strategic working relationships with the public and private sectors, and civil society (NGOs, cooperatives, etc.) partners, based on complementary interests and strengths in order to ensure sustainability.
• Develop and implement innovative models for learning and dissemination of agricultural technologies, including learning alliances and business models for out-scaling with public and private sector partners.
• Coordinate and facilitate project contributions from IRRI headquarters staff (breeders, natural resource managers, postharvest specialists).
• Report on project results to the CSISA-Bangladesh Chief of Party; disseminate project findings through publications and attendance in workshops, conferences, and other fora.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have PhD in agronomy or a related discipline or a Master’s degree in agronomy plus equivalent relevant work experience; at least 10 years field implementation experience; strong research background in agronomy and/or extension in agriculture; experience in leading complex research-for-development activities; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and excellent written and spoken English.
The position will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is available for 3 years with immediate effect, with a competitive compensation and benefit package.
